Gardening

Learning from Others

Our hope is to establish a permaculture garden and possibly an urban food forest in the East lot. Local examples are the Cultivate KC food forest in Merriam, KS  and the Sustainability Action Network Permacommons Gardens in Lawrence, KS

Interspersed through the garden and forest would be colorful and engaging sculptures and art installations. We would like space to double as a sculpture park that complements the layout, the vegetation, and the neighborhood character.

Below are the site plan & pictures of the Sustainability Action Network Permacommons Garden to give an idea of the possibilities:

“We can begin by doing small things at the local level, like planting community gardens or looking out for our neighbors. That is how change takes place in living systems, not from above but from within, from many local actions occurring simultaneously.”

– Grace Lee Boggs, Social Activist

Participating

We envision the community garden being a place where both the ecovillage residents and their neighbors can grow food together. You do not have to live in the ecovillage to participate in the garden and food forest! If you’re interested in contributing to the community garden, please fill out the participant interest form.
